Luke Schaefer
Luke Joseph Schaefer, age 87, was born on May 3, 1934, in Portland, IN to German parents. He grew up in Ohio.
He passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Luke is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" (Kupczynski) Schaefer of the home; daughter Carolyn Humphries; son Chuck Schaefer (Kathryn); grandchildren Amie Combs (Chris Colston), April Stricklin (Johnny), Ann Humphries (Ken Weese), Nick Schaefer (Morgan), Caitlin Schaefer (Seth Culver), Mary Thoendel (Dustin); 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Bob) Schaefer; nieces and nephews Kevin Schaefer (Judy), Steve Schaefer (Kristi), Renee Muhlenkamp (Ron), Lynn Sowar (Fred); 16 great nieces and nephews; and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Minnie & Frank Schaefer; baby brother Paul Schaefer; and sister-in-law Ginny Schaefer.
He served in the army during the Korean Conflict and worked on the Nike Missile. In 1960 Luke began his career at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an electronics technician. Then he became an instructor and earned his degree in physics. Luke retired from FAA in 2000.
Visitation will be Friday, August 20, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with rosary service at Smith & Kernke (23rd Street) starting at 6 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (1901 N.W. 18th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73106) with burial to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
