Richard Fiely
Richard "Dick" A. Fiely, 75, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home.
He was born on September 22, 1945, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Richard and Elizabeth (Addington) Fiely.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Roger Bickel, and one nephew.
Dick was a 1963 graduate of Fort Recovery High School. Shortly after graduating Barber School in Dayton, Ohio, Dick went on to join the United States Navy, where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Fort Recovery, Dick worked as a barber at Lawson Fiely Barber Shop and was a rural mail carrier for the Post Office. Most of all, Dick was a devout husband and a proud father.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed going golfing and was proud to have hit a hole-in-one. He was known throughout Fort Recovery for his well-maintained lawn. Dick enjoyed watching and following Fort Recovery sports. He was a member of the American Legion Post 345, VFW Post 6515, Lions Club, and the Fort Recovery Athletic Boosters. It was not uncommon to find Dick volunteering his time as an usher at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice (Bickel) Fiely, whom he married on September 13, 1969; his daughter, Renee (Andy) Olson of Madison, Wisconsin; his siblings, Shirley (Chuck) Acheson of Columbia City, Indiana, Mike (Kathy) Fiely of Cookeville, Tennessee, Linda (Chuck Schumacher) McCoy of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donna (Greg) Mannia of Roanoke, Indiana, Barb (Troy) Shaffer of West Unity, Ohio, Joe Fiely of Chicago, Illinois, and Harold (Kim) Fiely of Fort Recovery; his 8 nieces and 7 nephews and his 16 great nieces and 11 great nephews; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Bickel of Wentzville, Missouri, and Karen (Ron) Ranly of Fort Recovery.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Recovery. For those who would prefer to join remotely, the Mass will be live streamed at www.fortrecoverycatholics.org/streamspot/.
