Michael May
Michael (Mike) Alan May, 73, of Rockford, Ohio went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 3, 2021, after a long battle with heart disease. He was surrounded by his family and had a wonderful country
view from Buzzard Hill.
He was born November 23, 1947 in Jay county, Indiana to the son of the late Cletus and Esther (Schmit) May. Mike retired from Federal-Mogul of Van Wert in 2009 after 17 years of service, and prior to that he
worked 21 years at General Electric in Decatur, Indiana. At the same time, he worked at Riley's Chevrolet in Rockford as well as partnered in the family-owned carpet cleaning business in Ohio and Indiana called "The May Way" whose slogan was "We Clean Carpets Not Pockets."
Mike never knew a stranger, he loved people and people loved him. Always a giver with a kind word for everyone, a welcoming smile, and full of laughter. He was always offering help and his handyman services to friends, neighbors and even strangers. Mike always made sure that no visitor ever held an ounce of hunger at his residence. Quick to remind of more food to be had or of all the 'goody' options available and quite possible a bag of food or candy upon your exit - 'Just to be sure.'
Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife to the Grand Canyon and when they were not traveling, they were into some mischief or making Buzzard Hill Noodles.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister in laws: Paul (Eula) May; Gary (Joyce) May.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Shirley (Moody) of 54 years, children and spouses: Darick (Donna) May of St. Marys Ohio, Nicole (Jeff) Robbins of Greenville Ohio; 8 grandchildren: (Jessica (Henrick) Post, John Mobley, Katlin May, Kelly May, Colton Robbins, Kayla Robbins, Kyle May, Kara May), and 3 great grandchildren: (Ethan Post, Kinley Post, Kennedy Mobley).
Also surviving are brothers and sisters; Alfred (Anita) May of Fort Wayne Indiana, Ginger (Bill) Loy of Calhoun Georgia, Benjamin (Jeri) May of Calhoun Georgia, Ernie (Diana) May of Decatur Indiana, Maria (Dean) Yoder of Geneva Indiana, and Edward (Ginger) May of Portland Indiana.
He loved and cherished his family most of all, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Full of encouragement, leading by example and always ready with a piece of advice, a joke to make you laugh or a "goodie" snack.
We would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Community Health Professionals (CHP) Hospice Health Care along with P&R Medical Connection of Van Wert who provided wonderful and absolutely selfless care no matter the day or time! Every interaction with these organizations provided comfort and genuine care.
A "Celebration of Life" will be on Saturday, September 11th from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford Ohio. Online condolences can be expressed at www.ketchamripley.com.
