Thama Smith
Thama Kay Smith, age 77, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Gardens at Celina.
She was born on December 10, 1943, in Fort Recovery to the late Russell Stoner and Ruth (Bash) Arnett.
In addition to her parents, Thama was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Terry Dean Smith, whom she married on June 6, 1965; her father that raised her, Earl Arnett; and her siblings, Betty Elson, Nilah (Ronald) Helton, and Hubert "Butch" Arnett.
Thama is survived by her children, Pamella (Justin) Stump of Fort Recovery, Vikki Smith-Kifus and her fiancé, Andy Nichols, of Madison, Ohio, and Kelli (Kerry) Allen of Ossian, Indiana; her grandchildren, Kady, Riley, MaKena, Kiera, Juliana, A.J., Mylee, Kalib, Kamden, Kolton, and Kyler; her great grandchildren, Paizley and Remi; her brother-in-law, Erie Elson of Fort Recovery; her sister-in-law, Becky (Tom) Everhart of Palestine, Ohio; and many special nieces and nephews.
Thama truly loved children. From raising her family to caring for many entire families in Fort Recovery through her daycare which she operated from her home; Thama dedicated her life to raising children into fine adults. In her free time, Thama enjoyed scrapbooking, reading books, especially Amish books, and going camping with her family. She loved her grandchildren and being a part of their lives. From going to sporting events and other extracurricular activities, Thama was always there supporting her family.
Thama was an active member of the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, where she served on the church board, was the treasurer of the Truth-seekers class, and she lead the Women Ministries for 45 years. She was also on the board of Christian Life at the church. Thama was a member of the Friends of the Arts, Friends of the Library, and the Fort Recovery Historical Society. She was a 1961 graduate of Fort Recovery High School.
A celebration of Thama's life will take place at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Fort Recovery.
Guests may visit with her family on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery, and again on Monday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, it was Thama's wish that memorial contributions be given to Women's Ministry at the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, the Fort Recovery Historical Society, or the Marvilius Opera House Restoration Fund.
