Cyril Thobe
Cyril "Cy" W. Thobe age 91 of Chickasaw, Ohio died peacefully at 6:55 PM on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Otterbein, St. Marys.
He was born on December 13, 1929 in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late Frank & Rosalia (Imwalle) Thobe. He married Wilma Homan on June 27, 1957 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 1978. He then married Martha Schmitmeyer-Schlater on February 20, 1982 and she survives in Coldwater.
He is also survived by daughter & son-in-law Carolyn & Stan Homan, Chickasaw, grandchildren: Stacey Homan, Travis & Nicole Homan, Melissa & Mark Warder, Lee & Samantha Homan, Kyle Homan, nine great grandchildren, stepchildren: Chris & Ed Kimmich, Dayton, Steve & Marlene Schlater, Lebanon, Cindy & Ken Kaiser, Arcanum, Susan & Howard Heitkamp, Maria Stein, twelve step grandchildren, eighteen step great grandchildren, sister Irene & Bernard Berning, Versailles.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Wilber & Martha Thobe, Victor & Henrietta Thobe, Hugo & Norma Thobe, Art & Jeanette Thobe, Paul & Eileen Thobe, Thomas Thobe & his wife Judith Thobe Dircksen.
Cy was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, the Men's Sodality, Cemetery Board, and the Choir for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and a member of the Chickasaw VFW. Cy was a lifelong farmer and an insurance agent. He was a member of the first Marion Local Football team and an avid Flyer fan. He loved farming, family and never missed a child's, grandchild's, or great grandchild's event. Throughout his life Cy never knew a stranger and could always find someone to talk to.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, Chickasaw. Burial with full military honors will take place in Precious Blood Cemetery, Chickasaw.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, October 8 and from 9 to 10 AM on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Rustic Hope.
