Cynthia Hileman
Cynthia (Reef) Hileman Smith, 81, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on March 15, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio the adoptive daughter of the late W.J. Reef
and the late Clara (Miller) Reef.
Cynthia was united in marriage to Issac "Dean" Hileman on June 21, 1958, at Zion Lutheran in Chattanooga, Ohio and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1990. On November 1, 1997 Cynthia was united in marriage to George A. Smith Jr.at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and he preceded her in death on July 31, 2001. Then on July 18, 2013, she was united in marriage to Ed Alspaugh in Townsend, Tennessee and he survives.
Cynthia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur. She faithfully served her family as a caregiver and a homemaker. Cynthia loved shopping and playing euchre with friends and family.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Alspaugh of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Randy (Angele) Hileman of Crete, Illinois and Curt Hileman of Willshire, Ohio; daughter, Julie (Robert Jr.) Gavin of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Diane Schuyler of Ida, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Misty) Hileman, Jarrod (Amy) Hileman, Josh (Sara) Hileman, Kayla (Trent) Wannemacher, Jaimee Hileman, Lindsey (Andrew) Stimpson, and Brice Gavin; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren, and one due in December.
She was preceded in death by sister, Sandra Stroh.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor James Voorman and Pastor Zach Oedewaldt officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, Ohio.
Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran School.
