Elmer Rutschilling
Elmer Alphonse Rutschilling, age 95, of Reed Road, Yorkshire, passed away of natural causes Monday morning, November 22, 2021, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio.
He was born August 11, 1926, in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late Lawrence & Rose (Henke) Rutschilling. On May 12, 1956, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Elmer married Doris (Schulze) Rutschilling who preceded him in death on August 8, 2020.
Surviving are five children: Nancy & Darrell Strunk of Sidney, Deb & Steve Bensman of Versailles, Bonnie & Kevin Monnin of Lebanon, Larry & Tonya Rutschilling of Versailles and Steve & Anita Rutschilling of Coldwater; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; five siblings: Wilbert & Norma Jean Rutschilling of St. Henry, Berndetta & Jerry Kemper of Osgood, LeRoy & Doris Ann Rutschilling of St. Henry, Roseann & Bob Schoen of Celina and Connie Fullenkamp of Celina as well as brothers & sisters-in-law: Ray & Betty Schulze of Sidney, Ruth Schulze of Newport, Lavern & Diana Schulze of St. Henry, Marlene McMullen of Troy and Karen Schulze of Minster along with numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Bruce Bensman, two great-grandchildren and three siblings: Norma & Romie Huelskamp, Esther & Norb Puthoff and Gilbert Rutschilling as well as brothers & sisters-in-law: Aloy Fullenkamp, Alma & Charles Mertz, Richard & Betty Schulze, Wilfred & Mary Schulze, Ed Schulze, Bob McMullen and Fred Schulze.
Mr. Rutschilling was a US Army Veteran of WWII and had been engaged in farming all of his working life. Elmer was also a wild game fur buyer and helped out at Rutschilling's Saw Mill. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, a life member of St. Denis Knights of Columbus and past commander of the Maria Stein American Legion. In his leisure, Elmer enjoyed hunting, searching for arrow heads and especially, fishing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. Nicholas Church in Osgood with Rev. David Howard presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin Cemetery with military honor's provided by the Maria Stein American Legion.
Friends may call Saturday 8:30 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
