Charles Grieshop
Charles Edward "Charlie" Grieshop, age 79, of Mendon, passed away Saturday morning, November 27, 2021, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born May 11, 1942, in Coldwater, to Edward & Marie (Braun) Grieshop. On January 5, 1962, Charlie married 'The Love of his Life', Jeanette "Jan" Freeman, who was his High School Sweetheart. In January of 2022, Charlie and Jan would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Jan survives, along with their four children: Kevin E. (Tina) Grieshop of Mendon, Robin Waters of Van Wert, Deb Venderley (and Brian) of Bluffton, IN, and Jodi (Lee) Pieruccini of Lima. Charlie leaves behind eight grandchildren: Nichole (Bill) McCoy, Nick Shaw (and Mariia), Spencer and Trevor Burden, Ryan, Kayla, and Jarrett Venderley, and Collin Grieshop, and nine great grandchildren: Ally, Avery, Laci, Haley, Angel, Dylan, Brice, Derek, and Judy. Also surviving are his sister, Marge Swartz, in-laws: Denny Freeman, Bill (Kathy) Freeman, Don (Kathy) Freeman, JoAnn Freeman, and Carol (Dean) Donovan, and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister & brothers: Rose Mary (Bill) Abels, Louie (Patty) Birkmeyer, and Max (Eleanor) Birkmeyer, son-in-law, Jeffrey Lantz, brothers & sister-in-law: Ralph Swartz, Roger Freeman, Dan Freeman, and Mary Jane Freeman, and his parents-in-law: Earl & Esther Freeman.
Charlie was a 1960 graduate of Coldwater High School. He had worked at Sprigg's Olds and Speicher Brothers in Celina, and retired in 2005 from Teleflex in Van Wert, where he had been a maintenance mechanic. He was a member of MURA (Mendon-Union Recreation Association) and had served on the Mendon Village Council. Charlie was an avid sportsman, with some favorite pastimes being fishing, coon hunting, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed searching for arrowheads, and finding treasures while metal detecting. Attending flea markets with his son, was also a favorite activity. Many memories were made during family gatherings at the pond on Shelley Road. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, and was proud to have taught them to have a good work ethic.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, with Pastor Rob Glenn, officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling Hours are 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 30, and an hour prior to services on Wednesday, at the Mendon Funeral Home. Wearing masks will be optional for those visiting the Funeral Home. Please practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
