Lawrence Hone
Lawrence C. Hone "Pinky", 95, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI.
Larry was born on October 16, 1926, in Liberty Twp. Mercer Co., Ohio, to David C. & Vistula Snavely Hone who preceded him in death. On February 5, 1949, he married Miriam Eileen Karch, who preceded him in death on July 29, 2021.
Larry had an exceptional life. He graduated from Celina High School and attended Webb Inst. In 1944, while still a senior in high school he volunteered for the U.S. Navy, and subsequently volunteered for the Maritime Service (United States Merchant Marine) and had two ships sink from underneath him. His first ship was sunk in the Norwegian Sea on the way to Murmask. His next ship hit a mine in the Mediterranean Sea. He then sailed on an Army Hospital ship and later a Troop transport as an engineering officer. Mr. Hone worked for Omar Bakery and Wonder Bread Co. He retired from Sohio BP Chemical after 31 years. He was a contract Maintenance Superintendent. He was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church (now Trinity United Methodist Church) for 59 years, past board member and trustee of The Grace Church Foundation; Lima Board of Realtors; Lima Management Club-BP Chemical; Lima Lodge #205 F&AM; 32 Degree Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton; Antioch Shrine, Dayton; Lima Shrine Club; Lima Chapter; Lima Kiwanis Club & served as Trustee and Board Member and chair of its James A McDonell Arbor Memorial Committee which distributes trees to all first graders in Allen Co. each year giving out about 2500 trees each year. Past Member Lima Board of Realtors; BP (Sohio) 1/4 Century Club; Board Member Allen Co. Senior Citizens and served as Vice Chair of Building Committee; Nat'l Rifle Assoc.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #54 and Eagles Lodge #370, American Legion Post 96, the board of trustees of CUPP, served on the board of Directors at Woodlawn Cemetery, a past member of the Shawnee Country Club, a member and past president of the T&T Club. He was a Corporate member of Lima Memorial Health Systems, and past board member of LMH Foundation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and travel and lived by the motto "Help everyone you can and pray for those you can't."
He is survived by his sons: L. Michael (Sharon) Hone of Killington, VT, Timothy P. (Irene) Hone of Farmington Hills, MI and Jay R. (Heather Wilson) Hone of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Scott, Joshua, Caitlin, Justin, Sarah, Christopher, Victoria and Katherine; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Charles Hone, Leo Hone, Dennis (Joyce) Hone and Dalton Hone; and a sister and brother-in-law Peg (Don) Eckhart.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Lima Lodge 205 followed by a Scottish Rite Ring Service.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. John Foster will officiate. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 5713.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Crippled & Children's Hospital & Burn Centers or Lima Trinity United Methodist Church Foundation.
