Wayne Shively
Wayne F. Shively, age 93 of Celina, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
He was born on January 13, 1928 to the late Ernest Basil and Fannie Florance (Fisher) Shively in Celina, Ohio. On January 15, 1949, he married Jane I. Dukes, who died, on January 4, 2018. They had been married for 69 years.
He is survived by his children Curtis (Debra) Shively of Westerville, Kevin (Doris) Shively of Celina, Christine Combs of Celina, five grandchildren Steve (Audre) Shively, Heather Shively, Amber (Joey) Fowler, Michael Combs, Carrie Combs, five great grandchildren Mikayla Shively, Kayla Koontz, Kenneth Asher Bliss, Brooklynn Fowler, James Fowler, one great-great grandchild Quintin Tyler Johnson, and his brother Warren Ernest Shively of Delaware.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jane, and his sister-in-law Georgia Lynne Shively.
Wayne graduated from Celina High School with the class of 1945. In the fall of 1945, he started attending Findlay College. Upon his sophomore year, while in line signing up for classes, he met Jane signing up for her freshmen year classes and the rest is history. During his years at Findlay College, he played basketball and baseball, he was class president for two years, and he was on the student council. He graduated from Findlay College in 1949.
Wayne was a retired teacher from Parkway Schools, he taught junior high mathematics there for 30 years. He loved teaching kids. He helped coach baseball with Don Black. He enjoyed attending reunions for past students he had taught at Parkway. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Church of God in Celina where he helped teach his Sunday School class for many years. In 2014, he was voted as "father of the year."
One of his favorite hobbies was fishing. He was an avid fisherman and he not only fished in Ohio but ventured to Canada, Alabama, and Michigan. Wayne was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his family. He could fix and repair anything. He also enjoyed refinishing and building furniture. He was a farmer and loved being out in the fields. He farmed until he was 85 years old. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Mt. Tabor Church of God, with Rev. Darwin Dunten and Rev. Richard Van Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery in Celina.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Lehman Dzendzel Funeral Home and an hour before services at Mt. Tabor Church of God on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
