Zachary Hemmelgarn
Zachary D. Hemmelgarn, age 32, of Powell, and formerly of New Bremen, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his residence.
He was born on February 21, 1989 in St. Marys, the son of Kenneth and Amy (Thompson) Hemmelgarn, and Michele (Schaefer) and Richard Rohr all of New Bremen. On December 31, 2019, he married Bailey L. Penhorwood who survives in Powell along with their four legged children Motley and Marie.
Also surviving are his brothers Jarod (Alexis Way) Hemmelgarn of Indianapolis and Spencer (Kelsie) Rohr of Springboro, sisters Tilor (Jordan) Weber of Cincinnati and Samantha Hemmelgarn of New Bremen, his father and mother in-law Greg and Stacy Penhorwood of Bellefontaine, and sister-in-law Riley Penhorwood of Louisville, KY. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandparents: Harold and Susie Hemmelgarn of New Bremen, Judy Gehle of New Bremen, Jim and Barb Rohr of Chickasaw, Johnny and Rose Thompson of New Knoxville, Tim and Marcia Tillman of Bellefontaine, Gary and Lynn McLaughlin of Bellefontaine, and Doug and Rosemary Penhorwood of Bellefontaine, along with a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Zac was preceded in death by his grandfathers David Schaefer and Don Gehle, and his beloved dog Evie.
Zac was a 2007 graduate of New Bremen High School and went on to graduate from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in finance and real estate certificate. He loved to play cards, lose at poker and just spend time with his large extended family. Zac was a great friend to many; and his friends meant the world to him. He enjoyed the countless hours they spent together in various activities over the years. He was a diehard OSU Buckeyes fan to say the least, and he never turned down a round of golf. He and Bailey loved to host friends in their home and Zac would cook great appetizers for each event. They enjoyed taking weekend trips together, especially to Hocking Hills where they would hike. He had been a senior wealth management advisor with Meeder Investment Management in Dublin and also served as the vice president for the BNI Networking Group in Marysville.
