WAPAKONETA - Auglaize County Health Department officials in a news release Monday reported three new deaths and 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the county since their last update Feb. 18, raising the county's cumulative case count to 7,409.
The three new deaths raise the cumulative death toll to 111 since the pandemic begarn just more than two years ago. The newest deaths involved two vaccinated women between the ages of 80-100 and one man between the ages of 50-60 with no record of vaccination, according to the release.
Auglaize County continues to have a high rate of community transmission, according to the release. Officials reported 113.90 cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days, down from the Feb. 18 report of 188.37 cases per 100,000 people.
The county also had a test positivity rate of 13.49%, a 4.70% decrease from the last report.
A high transmission rate is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as 100 or more new cases per 100,000 people during a seven-day period or a test positivity rate of 10% or higher.
Officials continue to urge residents to do what they can to minimize the spread of the virus, including getting vaccinated, staying home when sick, frequently washing their hands, wearing a mask, social distancing and following public health guidance for contract tracing, isolation and quarantine.
As of Monday night, the Ohio Department of Health reported a cumulative 2,653,940 confirmed and probable cases, 112,363 hospitalizations and 36,580 Ohio resident deaths.
