George Minnich
George N. Minnich, 83, of Portland, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Gardens at St. Henry.
He was born on October 18, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Raymond and Lorene (Alig) Minnich.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (Goettemoeller) Minnich, whom he married on May 9, 1959 and passed away on August 31, 2007; and his brother, Robert Minnich.
It is plain and simple, George loved to work. He was always looking for the next challenge or adventure in life. From trucking to building concrete manure pits, George liked his big boy toys. In 1977, George and his wife, Marie, founded Minnich Poultry in Jay County. His hard work and dedication to the farm, allowed them to grow from 20,000 hens in 1977 to nearly 4 million today. No challenge was too big for George.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland, Indiana. George also enjoyed going to the Moose and the Eagles.
George is survived by his wife, Marlene (Budreau) Minnich, whom he married on June 11, 2016; his children, Dale (Theresa) Minnich, Gregg (Donna) Minnich, Pat (Don) Willmann, and Margaret (Steve) Reier, all of Portland, Indiana; his stepchildren, Mark (Amy) Albright of Fishers, Indiana, and Kerri (Wade) Boughman of Yorktown, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Valarie Minnich of Texas; and his in-laws, Mildred Wuebker of St. Henry, Ohio, and Wilma Link of Fort Recovery, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 471 St. Anthony Rd., Fort Recovery, Ohio 45846. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
