Elmer Spear
Elmer C. Spear, 78, of Madison, FL, passed away due to an undetermined medical condition causing an accident on March 10, 2022.
He was born July 16, 1943, in St. Marys to Elmer N. and Mary Katherine Spear.
He was a 1961 graduate of Memorial High School and later the University of Toledo. He was a widely known genealogist, founder of Elmers Genealogy Library in Madison. Elmer loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and 10 countries for personal and/or genealogical reasons.
He was a very benevolent individual. He established the Elmer C. Scholarship at University of Toledo College of Business. Upon retiring he donated his library contents to Haxford-Spear Genealogical Library. The library building was donated to Madison Academy - a private Madison school. He never knew a stranger. He always aided persons in need. He had a "heart of gold."
Predeceased by his parents, grandparents, sister: Cheryl Carnes, and brother-in-law: Owen Rinderle.
Besides his wife, June, survivors are sisters: Nancy Rinderle of St. Henry; Mary (Sidney) Smith of Celina; Elizabeth Springmeier of Indiana; Jeanette Murphy of Wapakoneta; brother: Thomas of Washington. Survived by nieces and nephews: Michael (Denise) Rinderle, Mark Rinderle, Marcia (Jeff) Rosenbeck, Milissa (Alan) Albers, Matthew Rinderle, Pete (Lisa) Smith, Patti (Dennis) Boshears, Preston (Marcia) Smith, Marna Carnes, Amy (Scott) Zweizinski, Kimberly Springmeier; Kristen Springmeier and Padraig Murphy. Additional survivors are step-children and step-grandchildren.
He lived with various medical conditions. The battle is now over and he rests easy.
There was no public viewing. Burial in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, GA.
Memorials may be made to the maintenance of the covered bridge in Memorial Park in St. Marys or he requests you call an old friend and invite them to lunch.
