CELINA - Dave Buschur easily cinched the Republican nomination for county commissioner on Tuesday, besting incumbent Greg Homan, according to unofficial final results from the Mercer County Board of Elections.
Buschur, Maria Stein, will face off against Democrat Don Holtvoigt, Celina, in the Nov. 3 general election.
"I'm thankful for the people who voted for me and everyone who voted in Mercer County, even those who voted for my opponent, because they're exercising their right to vote," he said.
"I feel very blessed. I'm excited for the future and I believe everyone in Mercer County is excited for the future, too," Buschur said.
Buschur, 38, received 5,201 votes, while Homan, 47, received 3,019. Homan had been a commissioner since 2014 and is chairman of the Mercer County Republican Party.
"I congratulate Mr. Buschur," Homan said in a text. "I have enjoyed serving the residents of Mercer County and sincerely appreciate the support given to my family and I."
Buschur had said if elected he would take a fiscally conservative approach and see if there's any waste that can be eliminated.
He also had said he would like to look at lowering the sales tax that was initially increased 14 years ago, noting sales tax revenue has grown steadily over the years despite the pandemic.
Buschur graduated from Versailles High School and received an associate degree in business from Wright State University-Lake Campus. He is the owner and president of Buschur Custom Farm Services. He and his wife Danielle live in Maria Stein with their four children.
