Verl Ballmer
Verl W. Ballmer, 95, of Findlay, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home May 21, 2022.
He was born in a Christian home which would influence his later life. After high school, Verl enlisted in the Navy and served in the Seabees during World War II. During this time, he felt God calling him to preach the Gospel. After his military service ended, he answered God's call and enrolled at Olivet Nazarene University to study pastoral ministry.
It was at Olivet that Verl met the love of his life, Naomi Grace Bearinger. They married in August of 1946. Their first ministry calling was to the little Nazarene Church of Mt. Blanchard, Ohio. During 41 years of ministry, the Ballmer's also pastored churches in Tipp City and Fort Recovery, Ohio, also Merrillville and Mishawaka, Indiana. The congregations Rev. Ballmer serviced were blessed to have a multi skilled servant who could not only preach, but was also a master carpenter, lawn keeper, and project manager. While at Ft. Recovery, he led a campaign to build a new sanctuary and family life center doing much of the work himself alongside many faithful church members.
The Ballmer's remained in Ft. Recovery after their retirement until Naomi passed away in 2013. They were married 67 years. Verl lived his final 8 years in Findlay, near his son John and family. He continued to study God's word and enjoyed the local library, reading historical and biographical books.
Rev. Ballmer is survived by a sister, Lois Masters and two brothers, Ivan and Alvi Ballmer; two sons, John (Brenda) Ballmer of Findlay, Dan (Tracy) Ballmer of Columbus; and three daughters, Pam (Tom) Weekly of Nashville, Debbie (Don) Neal of Oklahoma City, and Denise Kay, married to Gene Dooley of Orlando. Verl was proud of his 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may visit from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2022, at Hufford Family Funeral Home, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500).
Verl's funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31st in the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior (9:30 - 10:30 a.m.) to the service. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
