Dale Quellhorst
Dale Wilbur Quellhorst of St. Marys, Ohio passed away in his sleep on May 30th, 2022, at 5 pm at Vancrest Nursing Home.
He was born on April 25th, 1934, in Minster Ohio to Richard and Irene (Kuest) Quellhorst, who moved to St. Marys when Dale was 3 yrs. old. On January 27th, 1967, he married Wilma Jean Bruns at Holy Rosary Church in St. Marys, Ohio. Wilma preceded him in death on March 3rd, 2022.
Dale is survived by his two sons, Anthony D. Quellhorst of St. Marys, and Keith R. (Kimberly) Quellhorst of Lima Ohio. Six grandchildren Jennifer (Cody) Grigsby of West Palm Beach Florida, Trevor A. Quellhorst of Spencerville Ohio, Jessica R. Quellhorst of Las Vegas Nevada, and Kelsey (Keith) Grieshop of St. Marys, Nick Adcock Delphos Ohio, and Brittany (Lance) Bartlett, Phoenix Arizona, also surviving Dale are his Great Grandchildren Kinzlee Grieshop, Killian Grigsby, Calvin Adcock, Kameron, and Layla Bartlett. Dale is also survived by his two sisters Beverly (Roland) Kettler of Kettlersville, Ohio and Ruth Hiler of Altamonte Springs, Florida along with numerous nieces and nephews, brothers in laws, and sisters in laws.
Dale was a dedicated farmer farming in St. Marys his entire life and took pride in his life's work. He was a member of the National Ayrshire Breeders Association. He enjoyed showing his Ayrshire cattle at the Auglaize County fair, the Ohio State Fair and numerous other local county fairs. He retired from New Idea in Coldwater Ohio in 1999 and after his retirement he worked for Seifert-Hosselman, KOI, St. Marys for 6 years. Dale loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his sons and grandchildren. Dale enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with his best friend James Waesch, especially at the Memorial High School Football and Basketball games on Friday nights.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, New Bremen Ohio and attended St. Marys Memorial High School. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 as a Radar Technician. He was a lifelong member of the Amvets Post 333, Wapakoneta, the VFW Post 9289, St. Marys, the American Legion Post 323 St. Marys, the Farm Bureau, and the Home Benefit Association. Dale was a volunteer of the St. Marys Township Fire Department for 17 years. He also served on the Auglaize County Fair Board for 3 years. He was an avid Roughrider Football and basketball fan and a member of the Rider Rooters Club.
Funeral rites will be held 12:00 noon Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, Pastor Becky Erb-Strang, officiant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
