Vincent Gross
Vincent Joseph Gross, age 88, of Coldwater, died June 29, 2022, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
He was born November 11, 1933 in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Adam & Catherine (Braun) Gross. On July 19, 1958 he married Alfreda Bohman at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, Ohio.
She survives along with their children: Cindy & Jeff Wenning, Carol & Mike Brookhart and Dan Gross all of Coldwater. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Katie (Derek) Fullenkamp, Kendra (Andrew) Snyder, Alex (Colette) Wenning, Julie (Travis) Kunk and Brad (Lillian) Brookhart; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings and in-laws: Alma Goettemoeller of St. Henry, Louis and Joanne Bohman of Osgood, Norma Bohman of Osgood, Roger Siegrist of Coldwater, and several nieces and nephews. Vince, being the youngest sibling, was the last surviving member of his family.
He was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws: Herb & Madonna Gross, Clarence & Becky Gross, Cyril & Bertie Gross, Louis & Flora Gross, Rita & Bob Heyne, Mary Ann & Alvin (Jake) Severt, Viola & Jim Bonifas, Eugene & Blanche Gross, Paul Goettemoeller, Jerry & Mary Ann Hausfeld, Harold Bohman, and Jean Siegrist.
Vince was in basic training in Ft. Carson, Colorado from March thru September 1956. He then left for Germany and served in the 56th Field Artillery Battalion Headquarters until December 31st 1957. Vince worked at Pet Milk for 17 years and retired from Reynolds & Reynolds in Celina, Ohio.
Vince was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and an active member of his community. He was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Holy Catholic Church Holy Name Society, Maria Stein Adoration Guild, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), and the New Idea Historic Preservation Committee. He collected donated bicycles, repaired them for the K of C, and delivered them to the less fortunate parishes. He was a funeral server at mass, organized and lead the rosary before funeral masses, and delivered meals to the Shut-ins.
Vince lived his life as a Christian example. He practiced his faith both privately and publicly, hopeful of passing it on to the next generation. Vince was an avid gardener, carpenter, repairman, and cyclist. He enjoyed traveling, fishing trips to Rice Lake in Canada, nature walks, and dining out. However, above all else, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended as many of their events as possible.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Briarwood Village and EverHeart Hospice. Their care, love and support for Vince was deeply appreciated.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater, with Fr. Alex Witt celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
