Harvey Watkins
Harvey Eugene Watkins, age 93 of St. Marys passed away on July 4, 2022 at Otterbein after a brief illness.
He was born on August 6, 1928 in Mingo, Ohio to the late James Blaine and Mary Evelyn (Johnson) Watkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Peggy L. (Winner) Watkins; brothers Jake, Jim, Ray, Roger, Lawrence, Charles, and John Watkins and sisters Elsie Spence, Evelyn Markin and Josephine Metz.
He is survived by his children: Kathryn (Kevin) Hirschfeld of Bordentown, NJ; Karen (Tim) Corcoran of Chillicothe, OH; Marsha Watkins (Eunice Hornsby) of Columbus, OH; and honorary daughter Cheryl Burke of Celina, OH. Grandchildren: Lance (Sarah) Hirschfeld; Lane (Chrissy) Hirschfeld; Greg (Theresa) Corcoran; Lisa (Duane) Corcoran-Detty; and Andrea (Andy) Cordek; 11 great grandchildren; sister Eva (Charles) Johnson; sisters-in-laws Mary, Shirley and RuthAnn Watkins; brother-in-law Wesley Metz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a 1948 graduate of North Lewisburg High School, served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Immanuel Church of Kettlersville. His career involved all aspects of the timber and logging industry, and he retired as owner of the Watkins Hardwood Company. Harvey enjoyed pontoon boat rides, playing cards, and all things outdoors. He spent many years traveling to Michigan to fish and mushroom hunt and lived on Grand Lake St. Marys, which he considered his personal backyard. Some of the greatest thrills of his life were hunting in the Montana mountains with his nephew David Bunnell and his trip to Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Church (8888 St. Rt. 274, Kettlersville, Ohio 45336) with a luncheon served following the service.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home (225 W. Monroe St. New Bremen, OH 45869) and again on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Cable, Ohio.
