Robert Miller
Robert Loren "Bob" Miller, age 92, 281 Elm Street, St. Henry passed away peacefully at Briarwood Village Nursing Home surrounded by his family after a long illness on July 7, 2022.
Bob was born in Chugwater, WY on May 26, 1930, to Charles Cortez and Merle (Davis) Miller. He spent his early years being a "cowboy" on his parent's rural Wyoming farm riding horseback and checking rails. At the age of 15 his parents purchased a farm in Mount Victory, Ohio.
He graduated from Mt. Victory High School as president of his class of 20 students. After graduation, he attended Chadron State University in Chadron, NE where he earned his bachelor's degree in education. After serving two years in the US Army during the Korean conflict, Bob returned home and secured a job teaching at Ridgeway High School.
During his first teaching position he met and married the former Jo Mathewson on June 2, 1956. Eventually the couple settled in St. Henry in 1958. Bob was known by Mr. Miller in the halls of St. Henry High School for 25+ years and was a beloved teacher, bus driver, advisor, and librarian to many students who still seek him out today.
He received two master's degrees from Ball State University, taught prisoners to read, taught college classes at Urbana University, served as seed inspector for Ohio Seed for over 50 years, and was everybody's favorite car repair guy, handyman, and house painter.
He never turned his back on a person in need and accepted every person he met for who they were and what they had to offer. He had a quiet demeanor, was wiser than anybody knew and will be missed tremendously by all who loved him.
Bob is survived by his loving children, Keith (Susan) Miller, Sidney, OH; Melanie (Bryan) Ford, Ione, WA; Glenn (Beck) Miller, Mark (Ruth) Miller, and Bruce (Julie) Miller, all of St. Henry; and Dean (Kathy) Miller, Tipp City, OH. He leaves a lasting legacy of love, education, and caring in his 18 grandchildren, two step grandsons, and twenty-five great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Carl Miller, Marion, OH and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mary Steiner, Okeechobee, FL.
There are also numerous nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him tremendously.
In his spare time, he enjoyed nothing more than a good book and being surrounded by friends and family.
Bob's beloved wife Jo, of 54 years, proceeded him in death on October 14, 2010. Further, he was proceeded in death by brothers Wilbur and John Miller; and sisters Rose Johnson and Mildred Ralston; and brothers in law Carl and Albert Mathewson and sisters-in-law, Freda Lay and Elaine Weiss.
Bob was a member of the St. Henry Catholic congregation. Forever a believer in the power of education, Bob's intent was to leave his body to the Ohio State University Medical Center for research but unfortunately due to his illness he was unable to fulfill that desire.
His remains have been cremated. A memorial mass will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church at a later date.
Donations can be made to Ever Heart Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by Hogenkamp Funeral Homes.
