Thomas J. Hoyng
Thomas J. Hoyng, age 90 of Coldwater, died October 16, 2022 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater. He was born June 10, 1932 in Coldwater to the late Ernest & Helen (Losche) Hoyng. On June 18, 1955 he married Elizabeth 'Betty Jo' (Pfister) Hoyng and she preceded him in 2019.
He is survived by children, Joseph & Mary Hoyng of Coldwater, Michael Hoyng & Jan Sanger of Oconomoc, Wisconsin, Daniel & Cheryl Hoyng of Coldwater, Mark Hoyng of Minster, Mary Helen & Jay Moeder of Maryland and Dave & Lynn Hoyng of Coldwater; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen Great-Grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Rev. William Hoyng of St. Charles, Joan Vonderhaar of Celina, Janet Hoyng of Loveland, Joyce & Brian Forschner of Loveland and in-laws, Mary Kathleen Behr of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Anna Lee Wood of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by brother, and in-laws, Bob Vonderhaar, George Behr & Donald Wood.
Thomas was the owner of Custom Body Shop in Coldwater before retiring after 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 470 in Coldwater. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater. Thomas was a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, an usher at Holy Trinity Church for 50 years and member of the Holy Name Society. Thomas was a charter member of the Coldwater Kiwanis Club and the Agricultural & Industrial Heritage Center. In addition, he was also a member of the Grand Lake Soundwaves, the Barbershop chorus, the Coldwater Lions Club, a Little League coach for the New Idea team for 14 years and was a part-time courier for the Peoples Bank Co.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 and 9 to 10 am Thursday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Memorial Contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
