John Schnarre
John Dana Schnarre, from St. Marys, Ohio, passed away on January 15, 2023 at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Elizabeth (Gish) Schnarre, his two children, Jean Elizabeth Grev and John Dana Schnarre II, his sister, Sue Ellen Lynch, and his three grandchildren, Vivian Maria Grev, Sarah Elizabeth Grev, and Theodore John Grev.
John was born and raised in St. Marys, Ohio where he attended Memorial High until he graduated in 1955. He was an honor student, played varsity football and baseball, was the President of his Junior and Senior class, and served on the student council. After high school he went on to attend and graduate from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. He interrupted his undergraduate degree to enlist in the United States Army, from April 1957 to April 1959. He was deployed to Germany and Lebanon where he proudly served his country in the 299th Engineer Battalion (combat) as an SP4.
Upon his return, John finished his undergrad degree and went on to pursue his Master's degree in Education from Miami University where he graduated in 1964. While pursuing his Master's he taught U.S. History at St. Marys City Schools from 1961 to 1965. He met his wife, Nancy, at Miami and they were married in 1961. In 1965, John began a new career in the automotive industry and moved to Michigan. He worked for General Motors for 30 years. In 2004, John and Nancy moved from Michigan to Crofton, Maryland to be close to their grandchildren.
John loved his family deeply, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, following the news, taking vacations to Northern Michigan, watching college football - especially Ohio State, loving his wife in their 61 years together, and spending time with his three grandchildren these many years. He lived his life with integrity. A phrase often used to describe him was "we need more men like him". He is now at eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
