He was born on April 22, 1961, in Coldwater, Ohio, to Virginia (Carter) Wood and the late Richard Wood.
In addition to his mother, Jim is also survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy (Grieshop) Wood, whom he married on May 22, 1981; his children, Denise (Mark) Shannon of Redkey, Mitch (Amy) Wood of Fort Recovery, Andria (Chris) Ellis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mallory (Brad) DeMange of Fort Recovery, Spencer Wood of Fort Recovery, and Rebecca Wood of Fort Recovery; his grandchildren, Kinsey, Carter, Peyton, Parker, and Karli Shannon, Madelyn, Amelia, and Evelyn Wood, Marcus, Evan, and Joan Ellis, and Levi, Max, Isla, and Daniel DeMange; his siblings, Dave (Pat) Wood of Fort Recovery, Steve (Lisa) Wood of Portland, Phil (Tanya) Wood of Fort Recovery, Tom Wood of Fort Recovery, and Charlotte (Scott) Haase of Columbus, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Jeanette (Schindler) Grieshop of Fort Recovery; his In-laws, Cathy (Carl) Koesters of Fort Recovery, Terry (Phil) Hemmelgarn of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Sandy (Tom) Spettle of Columbus, Ohio, Jeff (Dana) Grieshop of Fort Recovery, Alice (Rob) Gaerke of Fort Recovery, Lisa (Jerry) Krieg of Lima, Ohio, Dale (Nikki) Grieshop of Lima, Ohio, Scott (Lisa) Grieshop of Fort Recovery, and Jaymi (Marty) Stammen of Fort Recovery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by his infant brother, Jerry Wood; and his father in-law Maurice Grieshop.
Jim was a 1979 graduate of Fort Recovery High School. He attended Wright State University for Tool and Die. Jim worked for J&M Manufacturing for 44 years in Fort Recovery. As a second-generation owner, he served as the head of service and continued to lead the engineering department for a majority of his time there. Jim's fingerprints, blood, sweat, and tears are spread throughout the entire company.
Jim was a faithful follower of Christ. He was often found reading the Bible and sharing the good news with others. He was an active member of Christ Chapel, where he was an elder, assisted with youth group, and was the proclaimed maintenance man and yard boy. He had a strong dedication to his career, but his family was certainly the center of his life. He loved spending all the time he could with his family and spoiling his beloved grandchildren. Many thought his hobbies were snacking and napping, but he truly enjoyed reading, keeping up with the most recent politics, going on family vacations, and building and enjoying campfires. Jim genuinely had a heart of gold, and loved giving and helping others.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, with Pastors Steve Long and Quentin Elsea officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
