Cavs repeat as county champs

Coldwater was paced by two sub-80 scores and four rounds of 91 or less to repeat as Mercer County boys golf champions, winning the county invitational at Celina Lynx on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers finished the tournament with a 328, 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Marion Local. St. Henry (363) edged Fort Recovery (365) for third place with host Celina (368) and Parkway (383) rounding out the varsity leaderboard.

Four golfers broke 80 on the day as the battle for County medalist came down to Coldwater's Ben Giere and Tyler Overman and Celina's Nick Steinbrunner and Lennon Cisco.

Giere, who was runner-up last Friday at the Celina Invitational held on the course, matched his 2-over 74 from last week and this time earned the individual championship in holding off Steinbrunner (75) by a stroke and teammate Overman (76) by two strokes. Marion Local's Marcus Rethman rounded out the All-County team in fifth place with an 81.

Marion's Grant Kremer shot an 85. Parkway's Eli Schumm carded an 87 with St. Henry's Josh Rindler finishing with an 88. Fort Recovery's Kyle Muhlenkamp, Celina's Gavin Pearson and Marion's Adam Schwieterman each shot an 89.

Coldwater's junior varsity made it a clean sweep by winning the JV tournament with a 386, with St. Henry (393), Fort Recovery (415), Marion Local (438) and Parkway (512) rounding out the leaderboard. The Cavaliers' Zach Diller was medalist with a 90.

Fort Loramie Invitational

Cincinnati St. Xavier shot a 311 to win the tournament at Arrowhead. Botkins was second with a 325. St. Marys finished 10th in the field of 16 teams with a 360.

Brennan Steger paced the Roughriders with a 77. Braylon Lampert shot a 92 with Joel Kogge shooting a 94 and Blake Dingledine adding a 97.

Botkins' Ross Dietz was medalist with a 71.

GIRLS GOLF

Minster 183, Lincolnview 260

The Wildcats raised its dual match record to 3-0 with the big win over the Lancers at Willow Bend in Van Wert.

Ashley Meyer was match medalist with a 45. Lauren Heitkamp added a 45 with Kendyl Bergman and Star Weigandt each shooting a 47.

South Adams 212, Fort Recovery 222

The Indians lost to the Starfires in an interstate match at Wabash Valley Golf Club in Geneva. Addy Hinton paced South Adams with a medalist round of 50.

Brynn Stammen led the Indians with a 52. Emma Will shot a 55 with Ella Westgerdes carding a 57. Ella Schoen and Eva Kahlig shot 58 and 59, respectively.

Riverside Lady Pirate Invitational

St. Marys traveled to Cherokee Hills in Bellefontaine for the Lady Pirate Invitational, finishing 11th with a score of 510 after Milton-Union won a tiebreaker based on the fifth-best score for each team.

Fort Loramie won the tournament via the tiebreaker after the Redskins and host Pirates each shot a 409, with Loramie winning the tiebreaker 115-118.

Lilleigh Sampson led St. Marys with a 103. Rilyn McGlothen shot a 134 with Kaitlyn Gross carding a 136 and Ava Klosterman finishing with a 137. Taylor Gates added a 160.

Reaghan McDaniel of Riverside was tournament medalist with a 77.

GIRLS TENNIS

Celina 4, Greenville 1

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season with the matinee win over the Green Wave at Booster Club Tennis Complex.

Kayliann Howell won 6-1, 6-0 over Maddie Lance in second singles with Elise Muether taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Haylee Shuttleworth in third singles.

Kaleah Dailey and Larissa Jackson teamed up in first singles to beat the Wave tandem of Meadow Murphy and Riley Etchison 6-4, 6-4, while Katie Guingrich and Carly Stucky posted a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Kirsten Horn and Trisha Wells in second doubles.

Makayla Rosario and Jadice Dorsten won a doubles exhibition for Celina.

St. Marys 5, Sidney 0

The Roughriders opened their season with a shutout of the Yellow Jackets at the Minster Bank Courts.

Sophie James won first singles 6-0, 6-0 over Ava Graber with Chloe Gibson getting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Laila Caudill in second singles and Kadence MacLean winning third singles 6-0, 6-2 over Cecilia Klinger.

In doubles, Peyton Wilson and Lillian Hernandez won 6-0, 6-0 over Avery Stover and Anna Ervin in first doubles while the second doubles team of Amy Hertenstein and Kelly Imwalle won 6-0, 6-2 over Madison Heath and Serenity Echols.

In an exhibition doubles match, St. Marys' Morgan Elking and James won 5-3.
