Jane Moran
Jane was born Jane Marie Schwieterman to loving parents Cyril and Merdella Schwieterman on February 28, 1959. She was number 8 in the lineup which would eventually make it to 12.
She enjoyed life on Cranberry Prairie with her siblings and anyone who stopped in. She made friends in school who would become lifelong friends and she quickly got in touch with her creative side, which she would carry with her throughout her life. From scrapbooking to sewing, she was always busy doing something - she was officially a Jane of All Trades. And that didn't stop with the creativity! Jane was also a very gifted athlete and a force to be reckoned with, whether it be in volleyball, basketball, track or even cheerleading. One season she actually cheered with a broken foot! And that truly encompassed who she was - a never give up girl.
From St. Henry high school she continued to Ohio University where she would play volleyball and track for 3 years, and also where she met the love of her life - Greg. The circumstances of their meeting have been debated - one story is they locked eyes across the bar and that was that. Another says Greg saw her license and proceeded to read it back to her at a later date. Whatever happened, it was love! The two married on August 8, 1982, within a year and thus started their life together. Greg became an attorney and Jane delved deeper into her fashion and interior decorator design career. After some moving around, the 2 settled in Williamsburg, Ohio, in what would become Jane's dream home. And as we know first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes - Christine Corbett in the baby carriage! The first of 3 was born on March 13, 1984. From then came their baby boy Geoffrey Michael on May 16, 1987, and finally rounding out the 3, Kathleen Corbett was born August 3, 1990. Unfortunately, tragedy struck that same year, and Gregory sadly passed on August 27, 1990. Jane grieved, but she did what she knew she had to do for her family - she jumped up and decided to go back to school and pursue her true calling - education.
After 4 years of college at The Ohio State University, she moved her family to Grandview Heights, Ohio where they set up camp in 1994, and where she eventually was given the loving nickname of "JMO". The community provided her children the right opportunities to become their best selves and from there, Jane encouraged them to blossom into their own. She was also able to pursue her love of teaching and remained a teacher for 27 years, affecting the lives of hundreds of children along the way. As she became a member of the community, Jane met her second love, a neighbor and confidante from across the street, Mike, and in him she discovered comfort. Along with Mike came her beloved stepchildren- Johnny and Suzi, two of which she accepted as her own. As a blended family, the Morans and the Myers embarked on many trips and many special memories along the way. Jane's emphasis on education impacted her children greatly. Christine ended up graduating from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Geoffrey graduated from Ohio Northern University and Kathleen graduated from her parent's alma mater Ohio University, all while Jane watched proudly.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck again, as Mike was taken too early, an unfortunate pattern, and Jane was faced with adversity once again. Her love was gone. True to fashion, she was able to rise up and conquer the odds, and with the support of her family and Mike's family, she was able to heal. Jane's true joy always rested in her children. Her daughter Christine eventually met her match with her husband Casey and they produced the loves of Jane's life - her grandson, Yosemite and granddaughter Seqouia, and grandbaby #3, due in December. Geoffrey married his love Rebecca in 2021, and settled in Portland, Oregon, where Jane was able to visit their new home Thanksgiving of 2022. Her youngest daughter Kathleen continues to live in Grandview Heights, and the two would always be close by to help each other out. Her stepdaughter Suzanne Avril lives in Telluride, Colorado with her fiancé Brian. Her stepson, John Merrill who works as a pilot and loves to travel.
Jane passed peacefully on August 17, 2023 in Sierra Madre, California with her children by her side. Although her last months were faced with adversity, her journey begins and ends as a dedicated family woman. She was born into an amazing family and proceeded to create an amazing family. Her perseverance and dedication to making sure she provided the best life for her family will always be apparent and will surely be her legacy. Jane will be remembered for her kindness, her unique sense of humor (she loved a good pun), her generosity, her selflessness, her commitment, her patience, her empathy, her fashion sense, and innate ability to decorate any space. Her love knew no bounds and the love she put out into the universe always came back as she will be missed by so many.
In addition to her loving children and grandchildren Jane is survived by her 10 other siblings: Mike (Linda) of Arcanum, Jerry (Marcia) of Troy, Dave (Carol) of Wapakoneta, and Bob (Carol) of Castle Pines, Colorado, Joyce (Ken) Gerlach of St. Henry, Sheri (Mike) Roddy of West Carrollton, Barb (Larry) Abels of Englewood, Sandy (Jeff) Bruns of Germantown, Cindy (Vinnie) Wu of Milford, and Mary Beth Zimmer of Cincinnati.
