Bruns scores 25 in Findlay victory

Marion Local alumnus Nathan Bruns scored 25 points to help lead the University of Findlay to an 85-79 win over Northwood in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Bruns shot 10-of-18 with 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals on Saturday. For the season, he leads the Oilers in scoring, averaging 16.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game.

Findlay, coached by Minster graduate Charlie Ernst, improved to 5-8 and 2-3 in the G-MAC with the victory. The Oilers host Thomas More on Thursday in another G-MAC game.

Capital splits games after Christmas break

The Comets defeated Wilmington 84-75 on the road in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Wednesday before falling 86-66 to OAC rival John Carroll at home on Saturday.

Junior Alex Eyink (Marion Local) started both games, scoring seven points against Wilmington and four against John Carroll. Fellow junior Justin Nixon (Minster) played 19 minutes off the bench against Wilmington and scored four points, then got seven minutes and scored five points against John Carroll.

Both have played in all 13 games this year, with Eyink starting all every game. Nixon averages 9.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, shooting 60.2% from the field, while Eyink is averaging 7.3 points per game and has 30 assists.

Capital is now 9-4 and 3-3 in the OAC heading into a home game against Heidelberg on Wednesday.

Ohio Christian falls in fourth to IU-Kokomo

The Trailblazers led by one with 2:19 to play before falling 80-78 in a River States Conference game at the Maxwell Center in Circleville.

Freshman Cale Rammel (Fort Recovery) played 20 minutes off the bench and scored five points. He hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer that cut the deficit to two.

For the season, Rammel has appeared in nine of Ohio Christian's 15 games, starting two, and averages 3.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. The Trailblazers dropped to 4-11 with the loss, returning to action tonight when they host Indiana-Southeast.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Flyers snap skid with win over Loyola Chicago

Dayton ended a three-game losing streak with a 69-64 win over the Ramblers at UD Arena on Saturday.

Junior Ivy Wolf (Minster) started and tied for the game-high with 22 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the field. Freshman Riley Rismiller played 15 minutes off the bench, scoring two points and pulling down four rebounds.

Wolf leads the Flyers with 12.1 points and 3.2 assists per game. Rismiller has played in 14 of Dayton's 15 games, starting one, and is averaging 5.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.

With the win, Dayton improved to 7-8 and 2-3 in the Atlantic 10 heading into Friday's game at Saint Louis.

Oilers win two of three after break

Findlay defeated Lourdes and Lake Erie in its first two games after Christmas before losing 87-76 at Northwood on Saturday.

Junior Janae Hoying (Minster) started and played 30 minutes, scoring eight points on 3-for-8 shooting to go with five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Ella Mescher (Minster) played nine minutes off the bench and collected three rebounds without scoring.

For the season, Hoying is third on the Oilers with an average of nine points per game. Mescher has appeared in 12 of Findlay's 13 games, averaging 2.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game.

Dragons drop two G-MAC games

Tiffin won its first game after the Christmas break, beating Notre Dame College 57-54, but then dropped conference games with Northwood on Thursday and Hillsdale on Saturday to fall to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the G-MAC.

In the 71-62 loss to Hillsdale on Saturday, sophomore Ellie Gabel (New Knoxville) started and played 13 minutes, scoring two points. Fellow sophomore Samantha Hoelscher (Marion Local) came off the bench for one minute.

Gabel has started 12 of the Dragons' 14 games and averages four points per game. Hoelscher has appeared in 12 games, averaging 5.3 minutes per game.

Ohio Northern wins two straight

The Polar Bears split two games at the D3Hoops.com Classic in the final week of December, then earned OAC wins over Otterbein and Muskingum.

In ONU's 57-47 win over the Muskies on Saturday, sophomore Noelle Ruane (St. Marys) played 23 minutes off the bench and scored five points with nine rebounds and three steals. Ruane has appeared in all 12 games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game.

Ohio Northern is 8-4 (6-0 OAC) heading into Wednesday's game at Baldwin Wallace.

Mikesell contributing for Chalon
