Philip Thompson
Philip Charles Thompson, age 69, of Rockford, Ohio, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1954, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Ernest and Gertrude (McBride) Thompson.
Phil was one of five children. He is survived by two brothers and one sister: Steve (Marcia) Thompson of Rockford, Ohio; Paul Clint (Katy) Thompson of Gallup, N.M.; and Ann (Gary) Brown of Winnebago, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert and sister-in-law Gail Thompson, and nephews Justin Thompson and Christoher Brown and a niece Halle Temple.
Phil loved attending family get togethers surrounded by his 14 nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew.
Phil was a 1972 graduate of Parkway High School. He was employed at the TuWay Factory in Rockford for 33 years. He received a certificate of completion from MTA Trucking School in Garrett, Ind. He was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church where he had played on the church volleyball league, dartball team and helped lead praise and worship. Phil loved the Lord and shared his musical talent with everyone he met including several bands, nursing homes, churches and community events. He shared his musical skills by giving music lessons to many students in the community.
He loved to travel and participate in musical events in other states. Most of all, he loved playing music with his family. He was a proud member of his community and was always willing to lend a helping hend to others. He was often seen walking through town visiting with friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held on February 24, 2024 at the Rockford United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with the service beginning at 11.
