1 injured in kitchen fire at Shandy's

By Abigail Miller
CELINA - A deep fryer exploded and a fire broke out in the kitchen of Shandy's Grill and Bar on Monday morning, leaving one employee injured and causing minor damage.
The Celina Fire Department responded to the restaurant at 129 W. Fayette St. after receiving a call from Mercer County Central Dispatch at 9:10 a.m., according to fire chief Joel Lange.
Four firefighters, one engine and an ambulance arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, according to Lange.
"It was immediate," Lange told The Daily Standard. "They had a small fire once I got on scene, and they just put it out with a class K extinguisher."
An unidentified employee was injured and transported to an area hospital.
"I don't really have any information on the patient," Lange said. "They went with lights and sirens."
Minor kitchen damage was confined to where the explosion occurred, Lange added.
"Where the three fryers were at, the hood system and the three oil fryers, all that stuff was damaged," he said.
The cause of the fire and explosion are unknown at this time and remain under investigation, according to Lange.
Restaurant owner Shawn McCoy declined to comment on the explosion or how the fire started.
"We're still trying to clean the whole mess up with insurance and everything," he said.
The bar will be closed until further notice, Lange added.

The state fire marshal's office, Dominion Energy and Mercer County Health District were all notified of the incident, according to Lange.
