He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus. Obie was also a former president of the Parish Council and religion teacher. Richard "Obie" Obringer truly encompassed living life to the fullest. After suffering a stroke almost 14 years ago, he did not let that slow him down. His passions revolved around his grandchildren, his dogs, Pumpkin and Pinkie, and Cavalier sports! Every Coldwater resident has probably seen Obie zipping around town on his scooter. He made sure to attend every Cavalier sporting event he could. He did not even let rain get in the way. Rose would put on his poncho and off he would go! He especially loved Coldwater baseball and came home many days with sunburnt cheeks due to the hours spent at the diamond watching his favorite game. Obie touched the lives of many. He truly loved children. He was a coach for many youth sports organizations- soccer, baseball, football, swim, and basketball. He was also a foster parent for over 50 children and yearned to see them turn into successful adults. Many former foster children have come back to visit and let him know how much he truly meant to them.
