George Sharpe
George Sharpe, 97, of St. Marys and formerly of Antwerp, Ohio, died 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 6, 1926, in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of George and Edna (Clay) Sharpe. He married Isabelle Runyon on February 4, 1945, in Van Wert, Ohio and she preceded him in death on May 1, 1996; he married Lois J. Dykema on September 27, 1997, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and she survives in St. Marys.
He is also survived by his son Randy Sharpe of Grand Rapids, Mich.; by his son, Karen Robbins of Phillips, Wis.; by his step-children: Christine Krall of Onalaska, Wis.; and Anne Thaler of Metamora, Ill. He is also survived by four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Virginia Sharpe of Decatur, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his son-in-law, Steve Sharpe; by his first wife, Isabelle Runyon Sharpe; by his siblings: Minos Sharpe; Minnie McMichael; Laverle Sharpe; Paul Sharpe; Jason Sharpe.
George attended Mendon High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the Phelps Dodge Company in Fort Wayne, where he served as an electrical foreman. He later worked as an electrician at Forest Springs Camp and Conference Center in Westboro, Wis. He had served on the Antwerp City Council and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier days. He attended the St. Marys Church of the Nazarene in St. Marys, Ohio.
Funeral rites will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the St. Marys Church of the Nazarene, 390 Indiana Ave., St. Marys, Ohio; the Rev. Eric Anderson, officiant. Graveside burial rites with military honors will be held at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Maumee Cemetery, Road, Road 43, Antwerp, Ohio.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church.
