Irene Mowen
Irene Veronica Mowen, age 92, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the Briarwood Village, Coldwater, where she had been a resident for the past six years.
She was born on October 29, 1931 in Ft. Recovery, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Clement R. and Teresa M. (Rammel) Eckstein. Irene was baptized in to Christ on November 1, 1931. On May 22, 1971, she married J. Scott Mowen who preceded her in death on July 4, 2007.
Left to cherish her memory are her siblings Eugene Eckstein, Teresa (Bill) Bowersock and sister in-law Eileen Eckstein along with many nieces and nephews, several who often visited and cared for Irene after Scott's passing.
Preceding her also in death were her siblings, Lee (Helen), Herman (Millie), Clarence (Alberta) and Clem Eckstein, Cleopha (Joe) Brunswick, Margaret (Clarence) Benanzer, Imelda (Florian) Keller and Hilda (Cletus) Niekamp, as well as a sister in-law Joan Eckstein.
Irene graduated from the University of Dayton. She was employed at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima and had volunteered for the American Red Cross in Lima and Agape Ministries in St. Marys. Irene was very gifted and talented and made numerous beautiful hand-crafted quilts and blankets over the years, with many being given as gifts to family and friends. Irene was a devout Christian led by her Catholic faith, attending Mass faithfully and offering special devotions to the Blessed Mother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. Entombment will take place at the Gethsemani Cemetery in Lima, Ohio.
The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. The Mass will also be livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel which can be found through their website: www.hrcatholic.org.
Memorial contributions in memory of Irene can be made to Hope Ministries c/o: Holy Redeemer Church or to Grand Lake Hospice in St. Marys.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Briarwood Village and also Grand Lake Hospice for the exceptional care given to Irene.
