Laura Paulus
Laura A. Paulus age 90 of Minster and Newport died at 8:56 AM on July 6, 2024 at Koester Pavilion, Troy, Ohio.
She was born in Minster Ohio on April 15, 1934 the daughter of the late John & Justina (Steineman) Sebring. Her grandparents were Frank & Anna Steineman, Minster and James & Laura Sebring, Versailles. She married Norman R. Paulus on October 16, 1953 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Paulus, Bonner Springs, KS, and one son James & Donita Paulus, Russia. Three grandchildren survive, Emily Paulus, Nicholas Paulus, Russia, Sarah & Christopher Stinson, Ft. Loramie, great grandson Xander Stinson.
She was preceded in death by daughter Janice in 2007.
She was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Newport, a 55 year member of the Knights of St. John Auxiliary, Newport, the ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Ft. Loramie, 40 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort GreenVille Chapter; the Versailles Area Historical Society, the Minster Historical Society (volunteer) 25 year board member of the Fort Loramie Historical Society, current member and former trustee of the Auglaize County Historical Association and the Minster Book Club as well as the F.O.E. Eagles Auxiliary of Minster.
She was also a member and past officer of the Shelby County Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Darke County Genealogical Society, Miami Erie Canal Corridor Association and other historical groups. She graduated as a salutatorian from Minster High School in 1951 and earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio with additional work at Ball State university, Muncie, IN in school psychology. She taught mathematics at Russia School and was a counselor at Versailles School, retiring in 1981. She lived with her husband and family on a farm in the Newport area for 45 years, moving back to Minster in later life. She enjoyed genealogical and historical work and traveling as well as time with her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Newport. A burial will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 9 to 10 AM on Monday, July 15, 2024. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Dick Steineman for the St. Patrick's Soup Kitchen and St. Joseph Halfway House in Troy or to the Capital Improvement Fund at Sts. Peter & Paul Church.
