A Lutheran Air helicopter touches down on State Route 49 near Koch Road in Liberty Township on Sunday to pick up a woman injured in an accident.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - A 33-year-old Hamilton woman died from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident on State Route 49 near the intersection of Koch Road on Sunday evening.

Jamie M. Teufel was driving a grey Jeep Renegade SUV southbound on State Route 49 in Liberty Township when she drifted left of center, travelled along or through the ditch for quite a way, hit a bump and rolled the vehicle, according to a preliminary investigation relayed by Mercer County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Doug Timmerman.

A deputy on traffic duty in the area stopped at the scene at about 6:31 p.m. and applied a tourniquet to the woman's injured arm to stop the bleeding, Timmerman said.

First responders called in a Lutheran Air helicopter which landed on a section of State Route 49 marked by orange traffic cones. The woman was then loaded onto the helicopter and jetted off to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

It's currently unknown why the woman drifted off the west side of the roadway.

Though there was a brief heavy downpour in the area on Sunday evening, the pavement was dry at the time of the accident, Timmerman said.

Officials at the scene said the woman was wearing a seat belt and was the sole occupant in the SUV.

The accident remains under investigation.
