1 killed in car-golf cart wreck

Accident remains under investigation

A 2015 red Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 17-year-old male of Coldwater rear-ended a golf cart at around 7:35 p.m. on Philothea Road. Michael Hatcher, 69, of Fort Recovery, was ejected from the golf cart into a nearby field after being rear-ended on Philothea Road.

FORT RECOVERY- A Fort Recovery man died Thursday evening following injuries he sustained after a motor vehicle collided with his golf cart on Philothea Road.

According to a preliminary investigation, Michael L. Hatcher, 69, was driving westbound in a black E-Z-GO golf cart in the 2900 block of Philothea Road when he was rear-ended by a 2015 red Chevrolet Malibu driven by an unidentified 17-year-old Coldwater male at around 7:35 p.m. Thursday, Mercer County Chief Deputy Sheriff Doug Timmerman said.

Hatcher was ejected from the golf cart into a nearby field, Timmerman added. Southern Mercer Ambulance District transported Hatcher with critical injuries to the Mercer County Community Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Southwest Mercer Fire District, Southern Mercer County Joint Ambulance District, Mercer County Sheriff's Deputies, Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers and Mercer County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team assisted at the scene.
