Robert Skromme
Robert "Bob" B. Skromme, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, at Otterbein Senior Living in St. Mary's, OH, at the age of 100.
Bob was born the son of Norwegian immigrants, the late Austin and Belle (Holmedal) Skromme on September 2, 1924 in Kelley, Iowa. On June 16, 1948, he married the love of his life Margie Mae O'Neal and had a long happy marriage until she died on May 25, 2005.
He is survived by his children Allan Skromme of Boulder, CO, Janet McGill of St. Louis, MO, David Skromme of San Mateo, CA, Linda Alders of Littleton, CO, as well as nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his son Wayne Skromme, brothers, and sisters-in-laws; Lawrence (Margaret) Skromme, Arnold (Lois) Skromme, Austin (Jane) Skromme and his sisters and brothers-in-law; Judith (Harold) Beaty and Margaret (Robert) Thompson.
He graduated from Boone High School with the Class of 1942 and proudly served his country in the United States Army as a second lieutenant during WWII. He graduated from Iowa State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering. Bob had a successful career as an Agricultural Engineer, working for J.I. Case Company, Sunbeam, Badger Northland and was Vice President and Chief Engineer at Massey Ferguson in Toronto, Canada. He then worked at AVCO New Idea in Coldwater, Ohio as Chief Engineer.
After retirement, Bob pursued a second career as an expert witness for farm machinery companies, and officially retired in his early eighties. He received the designation of Professional Engineer and was a long-term member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
Bob enjoyed living in Celina, Ohio on Grand Lake for over 40 years. He was a world traveler, avid bridge player, gardener, and antiques collector. Bob had a keen eye and specific passion for acquiring beautiful antique peg lamps, earning him the affectionate nickname, "Peg Lamp Bob." He and Margie were members of the Grand Lake United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday October 24, 2024 at the Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina, with Rev. Matt Overman officiating. Burial will follow in the North Grove Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors provided by the Celina V. F. W. and the Celina American Legion.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Church from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. Mr. Skromme's services are in the care of the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Lake United Methodist Church 119 E. Fulton St. Celina, Ohio 45822.
