The move from Southwest Ohio to Northeast Ohio has been beneficial for Riley Rismiller.
The Coldwater graduate is now a member of the Kent State women's basketball team after playing her freshman year at the University of Dayton.
In just two games as a Golden Flash, Rismiller has been a dominating player on the court.
In Kent State's opener on Monday with James Madison, Rismiller started and played 29 minutes and scored a game-high and career-high 20 points in the Flashes' 67-56 loss to the Dukes in the Mid-American Conference-Sun Belt Conference Challenge. Rismiller hit 14-of-15 from the foul line, helping ease Kent going 0-for-19 from the 3-point line. Rismiller also had three rebounds.
Thursday, Kent State hosted Division II Walsh at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Golden Flashes picked up their first win in a 113-54 rout of the Cavaliers. Rismiller recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and pulling down 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes of playing time.
Kent State is back in action next Thursday with a road trip to Raleigh to face North Carolina State.
Meanwhile, back in Dayton, the Flyers opened the season on Tuesday with a 75-70 win over Southeast Missouri State at the University of Dayton Arena.
Senior Ivy Wolf (Minster) started and played 35 minutes in the win for Dayton, scoring 10 points with six rebounds and three assists as all five starters scored in double figures,
The Flyers are back at UD Arena tonight to host Delaware State before traveling to Durham, North Carolina, next Thursday to play Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Oilers look to bounce back
After losing on Sunday 62-52 to Montana State-Billings, Findlay will try to pick up their second win of the season tonight against Lake Superior State in the Midwest Region Crossover at Ron Niekamp Arena in Findlay.
Oiler senior Janae Hoying (Minster) finished with nine points, three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes in the loss at Billings. Fellow Minster grad, junior Ella Mescher had two points and three rebounds in 15 minutes.
Ohio State opened its season on Monday in Las Vegas against Texas. The Buckeyes picked up a big 80-72 win over the Longhorns, which were ranked 19th in the preseason Associated Press poll.
Sophomore Austin Parks (St. Marys) played seven minutes in the victory, missing his lone shot attempt and pulling down a rebounds.
Ohio State opens its home schedule Monday against Youngstown State in a 6 p.m. tip-off.
Defiance College sophomore Quinn Holtzapple (St. Marys) earned a major distinction when the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its postseason honors.
Holtzapple was named to the Champions of Character Team. One player from each WHAC school who exemplifies the five core values of the NAIA character initiative: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership. Holtzapple was also named to the All-WHAC Academic Team for having a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
Holtzapple, who stated 17 matches this season and served as a captain, had one goal this season as the Yellow Jackets went 0-18 in its first season of NAIA play.
MLP Academics Heidelberg returns to action Saturday with a matchup with Goettingen in Germany's top-tier Basketball Bundesliga. Heidelberg is currently fourth in the 17-team BBL with a 4-3 record.
St. Henry and University of Dayton standout Ryan Mikesell is leading the way in his forward spot. Mikesell is averaging a team-high 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Mikesell is shooting 50.8% from the floor and 80.6% from the foul line with
St. Henry and Capital University graduate Spencer Niekamp was inducted in October to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame.
Neikamp was a standout for the Comets in basketball, earning the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was an NCAA Division III All-American. His 1,288 career points ranks 13th all-time.
Former Heidelberg University two-sport athlete Marian (Bevington) Heitkamp was enshrined earlier this season in the Heidelberg College Athletic Hall of Fame in Tiffin.
Heitkamp was a three-time All-American long jumper for the Student Princes and was an 18-time All-OAC finsiher. In volleyball, Heitkamp was a three-time All-OAC selection and two-time AVCA All-American. Her 1,414 career kills and 444 career blocks rank third all-time.
