Elizabeth Betty Jo Myers (nee Ross) recently of Pickerington, formerly St. Marys, OH passed away on December 18, 2024 at the age of 89.

She was the beloved wife of Dwight I. Myers, who passed away in 1979; devoted mother of Jim Myers, Patti (Ken) Bradford, Edie Myers, and Angie (David) Liske; loving grandmother of Jonathan Myers, Kimberly (Floyd) Matherne, Jessica (Shane) Evans, Emily (David) Bradford, Megan Liske, and Eric Liske; and doting great-grandmother of Mackenzie Matherne and Luke Evans.

Betty grew up in Rossburg, OH, the daughter of the late Jesse and Edith Ross. She is also preceded in death by her older sister Margaret (Allen) Rider and younger brother Bobby Ross.

Betty was a tomboy and like a son to Jesse. She helped him to work the farm, which also included shooting rabbits (which her grandchildren enjoyed hearing about). Betty attended Ansonia High School and Wright State University's Lake Campus.

She married Dwight Myers on October 10, 1953. They raised four children together in St. Marys, Ohio where Dwight worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office. Betty stayed home with the children, working tirelessly as a homemaker, seamstress, and vegetable gardener - canning and freezing all of the family's food. She never sat down to rest without also shelling peas or snapping beans or hulling strawberries. They were married 26 years until Dwight's passing, after which time she continued to raise their youngest child, Angie.

Betty and Dwight were active in their church, which for the longest period was First Baptist Church where they served as a deacon and deaconess. Betty was also very active later in life at Hillsdale Southern Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, led Bible study, worked in women's missions, and volunteered with Vacation Bible School. She formed many close friendships within her church family. Friends who relied on Betty, friends with whom she traveled, and friends with whom she found companionship in the difficult circumstance of young widowhood. She was one of the original teachers at the St. Marys Daycare, helping to raise a generation of St. Marys youth. She later worked as the secretary for the head minister at St. Paul's United Church Of Christ. From there, Betty went to work for Long & Folk Funeral Home as a receptionist and later, Otterbein Retirement Community.

Betty was always so involved in raising children. She started at 11 working as a nanny for neighbors. Betty and Dwight stepped up when family members needed help caring for children. Betty continued to operate this way - Jim, Jon, and Kim lived with Betty for several years while the kids were in grade school. And Jessi and Emily, after moving to central Ohio, would spend weeks at a time with Betty in the summer. Her grandchildren loved learning from Betty about faith, sewing, and baking. She made celebrations memorable and special. She was welcoming and loved to spend time visiting in conversation.

She enjoyed family vacations and camping. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family. Betty loved to read, and visits to the library with her children and grandchildren were a frequent occurrence. Car picnics by Grand Lake St. Marys were a favorite pastime. Betty took very seriously her role in her community and was a dependable rock for so many. She lived in St. Marys for over 60 years before moving to central OH to be closer to her daughters Patti and Edie, but her heart was always in St. Marys.

Family and friends are invited to say goodbye on Friday, December 27 at a visitation starting at 11 AM, with a service following at 12 PM, at Miller's Funeral Home located at 1605 Celina Rd. in St. Marys, OH 45885. Betty will be laid to rest in Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
