Mary Sherman
Mary Jane (Moorman) Sherman, age 95, of Sidney, passed away of natural causes on the evening of the Strawberry Moon, June 11, 2025, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She was born February 3, 1930, in St. Henry, Ohio, to the late John & Alvina (Schmalstig) Moorman. On November 8, 1952, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Mary Jane was married to Hugh Urban Sherman who preceded her in death on March 28, 2009.
Surviving are seven children: Louis & Jenny Sherman of Botkins, Nancy Ranly of Minster, Jill & Russ Cummins of Casstown, Toinette "Toni" & Don Alexander of Sidney, Jannis & Bill Sherman of Minster, Amy Muhlenkamp of Troy and Forrest & Debonair Sherman of Sidney; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as a sister-in-law, Jeanette Moorman of Covington and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Muhlenkamp; three great-grandchildren; nine siblings: Donald Moorman, George & Lois Moorman, Kenneth & Marcia Moorman, Alice & Richard Muhlenkamp, Patricia Ann Moorman, Jerry & Evelyn Moorman, Barbara Jean & Jim Perry, John B. & Darlene Moorman and Lawrence Richard Moorman as well as several brothers & sisters-in-law: Ken White, Bertha & Herbert Zink, Mary & Vernon Tebbe, Rita & Forrest Couchot, Ruth & Frank Strayer and Louise Sherman.
Mary Jane was a 1949 graduate of Versailles High School. She later obtained a realtor's license from Edison State Community College in Piqua. She retired from Electro Controls in Sidney and had also been a part-time realtor while always being homemaker for her family. Mary Jane was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Ladies Alter Rosary Sodality and the Al-Anon support group. She was dedicated to her family and cherished spending time with them. She also enjoyed reading, building jigsaw puzzles, and following the Reds.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Stephen Mondiek presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Tuesday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Alter Rosary Sodality or charities of choice.
