In the continuation of a longstanding tradition, fourth grade students from Fort Recovery Elementary helped village officials place crosses throughout the monument lawn this week in preparation for Memorial Day. Pictured, left to right, are Emmalyn Roessne, Mackenzie Kahlig, Hadley Overman and Lanae Hein putting crosses out on Thursday. The Fort Recovery Monument was built in 1912 and marks the remains of soldiers killed under the commands of Arthur St. Clair and Anthony Wayne. Each Memorial Day weekend, over 900 crosses are placed in the Monument Park in remembrance of the fallen soldiers.
