Ann Hudson
Ann S. Hudson, 90, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at Otterbein Senior Living at Lake St. Marys.
Ann was born in Lima on May 12, 1936, to the late Robert G. and Harriet Shuffelton. In 1958, Ann married Richard L. "Dick" Hudson, and they remained together for 64 years before Dick's passing in 2022.
Ann is survived by her four children, Mary Jo (Lynn), John (Reyline), Sarah (Nick), and Nancy (Erik); her grandchildren, Alex, Katie, Drew, Madi, and Sean; and her beloved dog, Clementine. Ann is also survived by her brother, Bob; her sister, Jean (Jim); and her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Ann's family is especially grateful for Ann's wonderful care team at Otterbein St. Marys, and for her special caregivers, Annette Moore and Reyline Hudson.
Ann graduated from Memorial High School in 1954 and from the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. Ann had an active career as a registered nurse and loved learning about and providing medical care, primarily at JTDMH. Ann spent many years as part of the JTDMH operating room team until her retirement in 1991, and she maintained many wonderful friendships from the OR team.
For decades, Ann was the silent partner in the operation of Hudson Jewelers, handling bookkeeping and business matters. Ann was also an active mother, church and community volunteer, gardener, musician, reader, and deliberative bridge player. She spent countless hours driving her children to practices, events, camps, and school; cheering on her children and grandchildren in sports and SMABB; and always making time to prepare a meal for family, friends, and the occasional jewelry salesman. Ann and Dick loved renovating and decorating old houses. Ann spent countless hours hanging wallpaper, shopping for antiques, finding things for Dick to paint, and decorating homes in the colonial style that she and Dick learned to love while Dick was stationed with the Army near Williamsburg, Virginia.
Ann served on numerous community and church boards and committees, including JTD Foundation, Agape Ministries, Inc. and the Shakespeare Club, sang, played handbells, trumpet and violin in several church and community choirs and bands, and participated in several bridge clubs. She was also active in the St. Marys Garden Club and enjoyed many years planting local community flower beds, touring gardens with Dick-invited and uninvited-and tending to a vast array of African violets.
Ann always loved new experiences and sights. She loved to travel and enjoyed many bus trips, cruises, and day trips that usually involved a good restaurant for Dick and shopping for Ann. Ann was kind, generous with her time, and a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Calling hours for Ann will be held on Saturday, June 20, at St. Paul's UCC Church, 201 N. Perry St., St. Marys, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the funeral service to follow.
Donations in Ann's memory (in lieu of flowers) may be directed to the St. Paul's UCC Church Organ Refurbish Fund or to Agape Ministries, Inc. in St. Marys.
