ROSSBURG - Brent Marks, the 2022 Kings Royal winner, and 20-year-old Corey Day picked up the wins during the Double Down Duals at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night that kicked off Kings Royal weekend at the high-banked, half-mile oval.
Marks, who swept the $100,000 to-win Historical Big One and Kings Royal in 2022, led all 25-laps of the first feature event to continue his recent hot streak on the High Limit Racing Series, which also included a win on Monday night at Fremont Speedway.
"We've been running good here recently and I am always excited to get to Eldora," Marks said. "I think we can get a little better but its nice to know we are close to where we need to be."
While Marks led all 25 laps on his way to winning $12,000 the battle behind was intense and when the smoke settled 2021 Kings Royal winner Tyler Courtney finished in second-place, while Kyle Larson, Rico Abreu and Sheldon Haudenschild completed the top five.
Eldora Million winner Logan Schuchart, James McFadden, Brady Bacon, Daison Pursley and Kerry Madsen completed the top 10.
Giovanni Scelzi and Emerson Exsom swapped the lead four times in the first 10 laps of the second 25-lap main event before Corey Day passed them both on lap 11 to take the lead.
Day, a star on the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, extended the lead to 10 car-lengths before a caution flew on lap 15 when David Gravel slowed in turn four.
On the restart, Scelzi passed Day and re-took the lead for a lap before Day reassumed the lead a lap later with a power move around the outside in turn four and was never headed the remained distance in winning his second straight feature at the Double Down Duals.
"I made a lot of mistakes out there," Day said. "But the car was so good it made up for it. Hopefully I can knock some of the rust off and clean up some of my mistakes."
Scelzi, Justin Peck, Parker Price-Miller and Carson Macedo completed the top five, while Axsom, Spencer Bayston, Aaron Reutzel, defending Kings Royal winner Anthony Macri and six-time Kings Royal winner Donny Schatz completed the top 10.
