Rev. Oscar Seger
The Rev. Oscar Henry Seger, age 82, of Osterloh Road, Minster, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday afternoon, August 31, 2026, at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen, Ohio, where he had been a resident for six months.
He was born January 18, 1944, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Linus & Juanita (Fullenkamp) Seger.
Surviving is one brother, Bruce & Elaine Seger of Fort Loramie as well as sisters and brother-in-law: Patricia Kittle of St. Henry, Bonita Seger of Greenville, Bernadette Seger of Troy and Bill Poeppelman of Yorkshire along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Donald, Roger, Ralph and Louis Seger, Madonna Poeppelman and a brother-in-law, John Kittle.
Oscar was a 1962 graduate of St. Gregory Seminary High School in Cincinnati before continuing divinity studies at Mount St. Marys Seminary in Cincinnati. He was ordained on May 23, 1970, by Archbishop Paul F. Leibold at St. Peter In Chains Cathedral, also in Cincinnati. Rev. Oscar's ministries as a Diocesan priest of the Cincinnati Archdioceses fulfilled a life-long journey as a faithful shepherd. He served a pastor or associate pastor at several parishes including: St. Thomas More of Withamsville, Corpus Christi of Dayton, Holy Trinity of Coldwater, St. Patrick of Glennwood, St. Denis of Versailles, Holy Family of Frenchtown, St. Charles Borromeo of South Charlston, St. Augustine of Jamestown, Holy Redeemer of New Bremen, St. Andrew of Milford and St. John of Fryburg.
Over the years, he also served as a Chaplain at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, State Father Prior, Ohio Columbian Squires, Procurator - Advocate of the Cincinnati Tribunal, Defender of the Bond Tribunal, and appointed from Rome, Judge "ad tempus indetermination" of the Cincinnati Tribunal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Egypt and had been a Knights of Columbus member in both Coldwater and Wapakoneta Commanderies. Fr. Oscar was fond of his family and especially enjoyed interacting with his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed golf, making latch hook rugs, mosaic art crafts and nature.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Bishop Joseph R. Binzer and Rev. John W. Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Monday 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at St. Michael Church. The Priests Reception of The Body service led by Rev. Sean Wilson will take place at 3:00 PM on Monday.
Memorials may be made to Grand Lake Hospice or charities of choice.
