Southerly winds will increase today ahead of an approaching cold front. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph can be expected with gusts of 35 to 45 mph at times this afternoon. Be sure to secure outdoor objects.

Betty Griffith
Betty J. Griffith, 59, of Laverne, Ala. died Aug. 17, 2009, at home. Death was due to natural causes.
She was born May 12, 1950, in Lima to Gerald and Leota King Shoffstall. She married Paul Griffith, who died in 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Sue (Mark) Lewis, Laverne; two brothers Jerry (Melissa) Shoffstall, St. Marys and Sidney Shoffstall, Celina; four sisters, Janet Mackenbach, Mendon, Charlotte (Lyle) Compton, Nancy (Buddy) Dials, and Bonnie (Ballard) Chaffins, all of St. Marys; a companion, Charlie Sheldon, Kenton; and three grandchildren.
Deceased are her parents and a brother-in-law, Tom Mackenbach.
She had worked in the nursing field for many years and owned and operated B.J. Beauty Shop in Wapakoneta for many years and later drove a truck.
Private memorial services were held Aug. 24, 2009, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, the Rev. Tim Smith of the Nazarene Church officiated.
Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory, Laverne, Ala. handled arrangements.
