Opal Kelley
Opal E. Kelley, 93, a resident of the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, died at 12:35 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009, at Dorothy Love.
She was born March 22, 1916, in New Bremen to Emil G. and Emma Huelsmeyer Fischbach. On Sept. 14, 1940 she married Frank L. Kelley, who died on May 17, 1998.
Survivors are her children, Jack (Jill) Kelley, Lebanon, Ind. and Karen (Patricio) Ras, Lewisburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister Marcella "Sally" Tontrup.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Sidney, and worked at the St. John's Church Thrift Shop for a number of years. She was a 1932 graduate of New Bremen High School and a 1940 graduate of the Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also worked on the family farm from 1943 until 1970 at which time she and her husband moved to Sidney. She worked as a registered nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital from 1962 until 1968. She was a member of the Shelby Oaks Ladies Golf and the Sidney YMCA.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. Jonathan Schriber officiating. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
