Mildred Newland
Mildred O. Smart Newland, 88, 103 Garman Ave., died at 8:40 p.m. March 4, 2010, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1921 in Auglaize County to Melvin and Rose Shanks Smart. She married Lawrence Halderman, who died. She married Joe Newland, who also is deceased.
Surviving is a sister, Bertha McCary, Celina, and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lando Franks; an infant sister, Gladys Smart; a brother-in-law, Calvin McCary; a brother, Homer Smart; and a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Gladys Smart.
A member of Montezuma United Methodist Church, she worked in the cigar factory in St. Marys and for Carl Gibbons in Celina. She was a musical entertainer and played the Hawaiian guitar.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Dan Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is one hour before services at the funeral home.
