Luke Dabbelt
Luke J. Dabbelt, 85, Wapakoneta, died at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 9, 2010, at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Chickasaw to Julius and Mary Schwieterman Dabbelt. On Nov. 20, 1947, he married H. Marjory Ellis, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are seven children, David (Katie) Dabbelt, West Chester, John (Jan) Dabbelt, Fort Wayne, Ind., Daniel (Mary Jane) Dabbelt, Weston, Mass., William (Julie) Dabbelt, Columbus, Mark (Lisa) Dabbelt, Westerville, Anne (Walt) Turner, Wapakoneta, Michael (Kristin) Dabbelt, Acworth, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Dabbelt, New Bremen, and Elaine Ellis, Carmel, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Jim (Delma) Ellis, Kissimmee, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Deceased is a daughter, Susan Dabbelt; and five siblings, Norbert Dabbelt, Ruth Rose, Bernice Wilker, Martin Dabbelt and Thomas Dabbelt.
He retired in 1987 as sales manager at Western & Southern Life Insurance Company after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. He also was a member of K of C Council 1272 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8445, both of Wapakoneta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater with the K-9 Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School and a charter member of the Grand Lake Beagle Club.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Matthew Lee officiating. Burial with military rites by the Wapakoneta Veterans of Foreign Wars is at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
