Lavern Rolfes
Lavern H. Rolfes, 86, Celina, died at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 1, 2010, at the Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
He was born March 22, 1924, in Celina to Leo and Corrine Bergman Rolfes. On July 24, 1948, he married Dolores Bohman, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are three sons, Dennis (Becky) Rolfes, Dave (Jean) Rolfes and Ed (Laura) Rolfes, all of Celina; two sisters, Patricia (Donald) Hay, Coldwater, and Mary Ann Steinke, Celina; a sister-in-law, Virginia Rolfes, Celina; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Deceased is a brother, Eugene Rolfes; a brother-in-law, Victor Steinke; and a grandson.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the Mersman Brothers in Celina in 1987. He also owned and operated a mowing and yard work business in Celina. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the church's Men's Sodality, the Knights of Columbus Council 1800, American Legion Post 210 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Ken Schnipke officiating. Burial with military honors by the American Legion and VFW of Celina is at St. Marys Catholic Church Cemetery in Celina.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. Friday and before 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. An American Legion and VFW membership service is at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Community Health Professionals Hospice Care and Visiting Nurses or the IC Endowment Fund.
