Rev. Paul Aumen
The Rev. Paul Aumen, 88, died at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15, 2010, in the infirmary at St. Charles Center in Carthagena.
He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in York, Pa., to Bernard and Bertha Smith Aumen.
Surviving are seven siblings, Sister Paula Mary Aumen, McSherrystown, Pa., Estella Gebhart, New Oxford, Pa., Thomas (Brigetta) Aumen, Hamilton, Bertha Kuhn, Abottstown, Pa., Lawrence (Nancy) Aumen, New Oxford, Pa., Charlotte Hull, York, and Adrian (Leslie) Aumen, Spring Grove, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Aumen, Abottstown, Pa.
Deceased are a brother and his wife, Bernard and Bernadette Aumen, and a brother, Philip Aumen; a sister, Theresa DelRosso; and two brothers-in-law, Regis Gebhart and John Kuhn.
He entered the Society of the Precious Blood in 1938 and was ordained on March 25, 1949. He spent the first years as a priest at St. Joseph Church in Wapakoneta, Corpus Christi Church in Dayton and St. Mary Church in Hamilton. In 1954, he was named associate pastor at Holy Trinity Church in Columbia, Pa. He volunteered for ministry in Chile in 1955 and served at parishes in Santiago and Valdivia. He was named the vicar provincial in 1962. He also ministered for 10 years in Guatemala where he established a seminary and was entrusted to the Chilean Vicariate in 1986. Later, he served the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pa.
Funeral Mass was held today at St. Charles Center, the Rev. Angelo Anthony officiated.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today at the center.
A funeral Mass also will be held at noon Monday at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Hanover, Pa., the Rev. Joseph Gotwald officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-noon Monday at the basilica.
