Max Smith
Max D. Smith, 70, Portland, Ind., died March 15, 2011, in Jay County.
He was born Feb. 10 , 1941, in Portland, to Russell and Ethel Shirk Smith. On Dec. 8, 1957, he married Mary Monroe, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James Smith, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Larry (Karen) Smith, East Palistine; two daughters, Sherry (Dennis) Garke, Fort Recovery, and Brenda (Dennis) Kaup, Fort Recovery; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He worked at Holthouse Furniture and F.C.C. in Portland, Ind. He was a member of the Bellfountain United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland, Ind., the Rev. Glen Perkins officiating. Burial is at Mount Zion Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
