Area residents in good shape, but need to keep working at it

Grand Lake area residents get good marks for overall health, but the battle gets tougher every day.
Joyce Jansen, director of nursing for the Mercer County health department, said convincing people to care about their health isn't easy.

A 28-year-old Burkettsville man apologized to his victim prior to sentencing Friday morning in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Andrew "Drew" Siefring, 45 Jefferson St., was sentenced to eight months in the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility as part of community control sanctions imposed on an amended charge of attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony. There is a possibility the time can be served through participation in the jail's work release program. [More]

A new trial date will be set in Mercer County Common Pleas Court after a Fort Recovery man requested a continuance to review evidence recently obtained from the prosecution.
FORT RECOVERY - Two Portland, Ind., residents pleaded not guilty this week to criminal charges   alleging illegal practices at Vonderhaar Meat Market in Fort Recovery.
ST. MARYS - The St. Marys Roughriders overcame a rough night by their ace pitcher Erika Thornsberry by using great defense and taking advantage of their offensive chances to post an 8-2 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers in non-league softball on Friday afternoon at K.C. Geiger Park.
